The development and flourishing of Ershui Township is closely connected with trains. Ershui Township was the only township that had all “cross-island railway, Jiji Railway and Taiwan Sugar railway”. Therefore, Ershui residents find it hard to part with traditional trains.Jiji Railway was built in 1930 for transporting building materials when building Sun Moon Lake Hydropower Plant. Later on, it also contributed greatly to the transportation of agricultural goods along its route. Due to the current convenience of highways, it has now being transformed into a tourism and recreational railway.Starting from Ershui Station, Jiji Railway passes through stations such as Yuanquan, Zhuoshui, Longquan and Shuili. It runs along the northern bank of Zhuoshui River and ends at Checheng, Nantou with the total length of 29 kilometers. Along the way, it is known for the natural landscapes of mountains, rivers and farms, especially the hundreds of old camphor trees on both sides of the several-kilometer long Green Tunnel. When the train enters the tunnel, the surroundings suddenly became tranquil as if visitors are entering a fairyland. This is a lingering place that is packed with tourists on holidays.The sub-line of Jiji Line is the oldest railway of Taiwan and is the only railway within Nantou County. Stretching 29.7 kilometers, Ershui Station is the starting point of Jiji Line.
