The Xinwen Jiaying Temple is chiefly dedicated to the Wangye that hunts on behalf of heaven. On March 27th of the lunar calendar, the temple holds a massive water-dash ceremony to usher in Kewang, or “Guest King’. The ceremony requires that all of the deity’s sedan carriers, who represent different regions across Taiwan, dash into the water to usher in Kewang. Led by the dragon dancers, the sedan carriers plunge into the water as excited onlookers snap away.
