Taipei Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare

Contact Hospitals

The hospital was established in April 1968, through the merger of Taipei Obstetric Hospital and Taipei Children’s Hospital to form the Taipei Maternal and Child Care Hospital. Originally located in Section 2, Zhong-shang North Road, the hospital has experienced multiple reforms over its 27-year history. On July 1, 1999, the hospital was assigned under the Department of Health, and became “Taipei Hospital, Department of Health, Executive Yuan”.


Then, in accordance to the restructuring of the Executive Yuan, the Department of Health in combination with other social welfare agencies became the Ministry of Health and Welfare on July 23, 2013. Accordingly, Taipei Hospital was also renamed to “Taipei Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare”. Since its inception, Taipei Hospital upholds the patient-centered principle and see patients not merely as patients, but as family members.


Taipei Hospital is in possession of 371 general beds and 166 specialty beds. Moreover, it caters up to a maximum of 125 psychiatric daily care beds. Currently, there are 119 physicians on duty with total staff numbering at more than 1,200. As a public hospital, we emphasize on the needs of the society and carry social responsibilities of care for disadvantaged and minority groups. Under the excellent leadership of former Superintendents, the hospital is now well developed with the capacity in health promotion, preventive health, mid-to-long term care, and emergency and critical care.

 
Taiwan International Healthcare Training Center (TIHTC) was established in 2002 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW), and executed by Taipei Hospital, MOHW. TIHTC offers training and exchange programs for healthcare professionals around the world to pursue continuing education in Taiwan. In the past 20 years, over 2,000 healthcare professionals from 74 countries have received training through TIHTC, which helped with the improvement of their own countries’ health systems. Furthermore, TIHTC has received nearly 1,300 international visitors from 65 countries, provided international medical rescue assistance 22 times, and signed official cooperation agreements with 38 hospitals and international organizations in countries such as India, Indonesia, Luxembourg, the Marshall Islands, Mongolia, the Philippines, Russia, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam. Held and participated in nearly 100 domestic and international symposiums, seminars, conferences, and webinars. Since the training of the first international healthcare personnel, the Center can now train over a hundred international medical, healthcare, and administration personnel per year.
