Treatment introduction
Atherosclerosis is a common disease in middle age people and the elderly. Typically, this disease causes the arteries to harden leading to narrowed and blocked arteries. Common diseases known by caused by atherosclerosis are coronary artery disease, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction. Of all the blood vessels in the body, the ones in the lower limbs are the farthest from the heart. Therefore, they are most susceptible to hardening, which leads to either chronic or acute ischemia known as Peripheral vascular disease (PVD). The prevalence of this condition is not low. Research shows PVD increases as one age. Adults aged 40-59 have an 8% increase in developing this disease. Those aged 40-59 have an 8% increase while adults over 70 increase by 19%. Generally, most people do not realize they have this disease and will not seek medical treatment, thereby, missing the golden opportunity to treat this condition, which leads to the need for an amputation. In recent years, E-Da Hospital's Division of Cardiology has continued to develop this type of treatment using the treatment of coronary artery disease as a foundation as well as the addition of advanced technology to screen and treat patients with acute ischemia. Every year, over 300 patients have been treated successfully so they can avoid the threat of undergoing an amputation. As a result of our achievement, the Division of Cardiology at E-Da Hospital has become an important partner in the treatment of PVD.
