Post-surgical Care
1.Go directly home to relax. Non-prescription pain medicines may be taken as needed. If you are unable to sleep, try to rest and keep the eye(s) closed for the rest of the day. 2.DO NOT RUB OR PUSH ON YOUR EYES. 3.As the numbing drops wear off, your eye(s) may be painful to the touch, burn, water and be sensitive to light. Most patients report this sensation as discomfort, not pain. The discomfort should only last for a few hours. 4.DO NOT USE ANY DROPS IN YOUR EYES. You will be instructed on what drops to use at your 1st post-op visit. 5.CALL CLINIC IMMEDIATELY if pain persists or returns after the initial surgical discomfort has subsided. 6.Some people will have very red eye(s) the next morning. This is normal and is attributed to the suction ring that was used during surgery. The redness will wear off with time and should not affect your vision. 7.No water should get in the eye for one week. You may shower, but keep your eyes closed when washing hair and rinsing so that the water runs towards the back of your head. Also, try to aim the flow of water lower than your eyes. Gently pat-wash with a clean cloth around the eyes. 8.Please refrain from over using your eyes for 2 days following your surgery. Do not read, watch a lot of TV, or stare at a computer. 9.No water in the eye for 1 month. No swimming or tanning bed for 1 month. 10.Wear no eye make-up or mascara for 1 week. After 1 week, you may wear make-up that is easily removed with soap and water. 11.Wear safety glasses or sports goggles when participating in contact sports or doing work during which foreign matter may get into your eyes. This will irritate the eye as well as increase your risk of infection. If dust does get in your eye, use preservative-free artificial tears to flush out the debris. 12.Expect your vision to fluctuate during the first few weeks.
