Organ Transplantation Center The CMUH participated in the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) of Taiwan Organ Registry and Sharing Center in 2004 July. It performed the online distribution system and established the organ transplantation team on 2005 April accordingly, and appointed the dedicated organ transplant coordinators in 2007 October so that the organ donation efficiency was increased. Since 2008 to 2011, the CMUH has won the Excellent Organ Donation Award of Taiwan Organ Registry and Sharing Center continuously. 1.Liver Transportation The CMUH liver transplantation technology is mature. With the cross-department cooperation, the CMUH completed the first living liver transplantation around the world on November 7, 2006, and the first ABO-incompatible liver transplantation in the central Taiwan on November 21, 2006. At present, 50 successful cases have been completed. For the gradual growth of organ transplantation businesses, the Organ Transplantation Center was established on October 1, 2008. Until now, more than 882 living liver transportations have been completed with the same success and survival rates as those of general patients. It has reached great achievements with more than 90% 1-year survival rate and 73.57% 5-year survival rate. 2.Kidney Transportation The CMUH completed the first living kidney transplantation in 1992 October, followed by the completion of the first cadaveric kidney transplantation on 1993 March. It is the pioneer of kidney transplantation in the central Taiwan. Based on the leadership of the Vice Superintendent, Chiu-Ching Huang, since 2003 December, the kidney transplantation teams led Director Chao-Hsiang Chang is combined to actively promote the kidney transportation. In total, 192 kidney transportations are completed since 2001 to 2006. 3.Lung Transplantation The CMUH completed the first human signal-lung transplantation in the central Taiwan led by the former Nan-Yung Hsu on November 22, 2001, and has completed 17 successful cases at present. Since Hsin-Yung Fang, the Director of Thoracic Surgery Division, succeeded and studied the lung transplantation technology in U.S.A. and has returned after completion of the study, he will lead the lung transplantation development in the future. 4.Heart Transplantation The CMUH completed the first heat transplantation led jointly by Ping-Chun Li, the Director of Cardiovascular Surgery Division, and Kuan-Cheng Chang, the Director of Cardiology Division, on November 25, 2011, and the patient has recovered well. At present, the CMUH has completed 28 heat transplantations, which are the most successful cases in the central Taiwan. It aims to develop heat transplantation in the future. 5.Corneal Transplantation After the establishment of the Organ Transplant Center, the corneal transplantation can benefit four times of patients every year as much as those in the past year. The sight of many patients who have waited for a long time can be recovered. In addition to the traditional full-thickness corneal transplantation, more advanced lamellar keratoplasty and descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty will be performed depended on the corneal diseases for patients so that not only the success rate of operation and the survival rate of corneal transplantation is increased significantly, but also the required postoperative recovery time of patient is shortened. The CMUH completed the first descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) in Taiwan approved by Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2009 July, and has completed 224 transplantations until 2014 December.
