E-Da Hospital is one of the very few hospitals in Taiwan to install a newly imported 6D Varian EDGE Radiosurgery System to help patients in their fight again cancer. This cutting-edge treatment will be available for use in the upcoming week. This radiosurgery system features 4D image-guided radiotherapy technology paired with a treatment bed that adjusts according to the patient's movement in all 6 degree of freedom during surgery.
While the surgery is in progress, real-time tracking and monitoring of the tumor’s location is available along with a treatment bed that can allow for 6 degrees of movement ensures a comfortable and precise treatment experience for the patient. The 6D Varian EDGE has a unique non-coplanar treatment technology, which allows for deeper radiation penetration of the tumor thus sparing healthy tissues to significantly reduce complications after treatment. Specialized technology ensures the accuracy of treatment by detecting each of the human body's 20000 points, and it can detect movement (caused by breathing, coughing, or involuntary actions) of up to 1 millimeter to reduce the potential for unwanted radiation exposure to healthy tissues.
According to our medical team, Varian EDGE is a precise form of radiosurgery technology, which is important in protecting the patient's surrounding tissues. This will help to reduce the risks of side effects after the surgery. The EDGE can be used to treat brain tumors, spinal tumors, hand and neck tumors, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer. It is an ideal treatment option for the frail and the elderly.
