Treatment introduction
E-Da Hospital Group added a new diagnostic imaging system Toshiba Aquilion ONE Computed Tomography (CT) scanner, which is the newest generation of the 640-slice model. It is an ideal tool for the screening of coronary artery disease. The term 640-slice refers to the number of slices to represent the number of images obtained by the detector in one rotation. In comparison with the 64-slice scanner, the 640-slice CT can capture 64 slices in one rotation, but at 10 times the number of images captured. Moreover, the width of the detector has been significantly upgraded from the original 3.2 centimetres of coverage to 16 centimetres to allow for the complete scanning of the heart, which typically averages 12 to 13 centimetres, in one rotation. This enables the capture of sufficient data without the need for segmented capturing of data and can also help to avoid the presence of artefacts associated with multiple takes. Apart from this, with sufficient width and high speed the need for contrast agents can be reduced; thereby, lowering the radiation exposure time and dosage contrast. Besides being an ideal tool for the imaging of coronary artery, multi-turn scanning resulting in ischemic cardiomyopathy mapping can be used to assess for 3D myocardial perfusion. This is extremely useful in assessing the treatment of patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction. Perfusion images can also be captured for the entire brain, kidneys, liver, and pancreas to monitor these organs. As a result, this represents a significant upgrade over the 64-slice CT, which focuses only on the known presence of tumours in a specific area. With regards to radiation dose, the 640-slice CT features high-speed scanning and new imaging technology, which can reduce up to 75% of dosage when compared to traditional scanners. This is particularly beneficial for infants, female patients, or patients who need CT scans on a regular basis.
