Orthopedic Managements for Cerebral Palsy:

  1. Over 300 cases of cerebral palsy treated between 2005~2015, with 99.8% of patient-reported satisfaction rate.
  2. High-quality cerebral palsy program qualified by Symbol of National Quality in Taiwan Post-operative improvement of Gait Deviation Index 18.12% (Korea report 11%, European report 18%).
  3. First clinically oriented gait analysis lab in Taiwan serving more than 60 cases of cerebral palsy per year.
  4. Integrated management team consisted of orthopedic surgeon, physiatrist, physical therapist and medical engineer.
  5. Weekly combined meeting to discuss gait analysis data, surgical planning and post-operative protocol.
  6. Single-Event-Multi-Level-Surgery for deformity correction.
  7. Post-operative early weight-bearing for patients with pelvic and femur osteotomy surgeries.

Artificial joint replacement surgery:

About 800 cases of artificial joint replacement surgery each year, the infection complications are less than one thousandth, and the postoperative satisfaction is as high as 95%. Minimally invasive artificial joint replacement and robotic arm assisted computer navigation artificial joint replacement is the characteristic medical treatment of artificial joint replacement surgery in our hospital. In particular, the MAKO arm-assisted computer navigation artificial joint replacement is the only medical center in South Taiwan that has this technical equipment. Each year, we receive about 800 person-times of joint replacement surgery in our hospital. We have enough surgery and high-quality technology to give the trainees the opportunity to learn.

Learning Targets

Foot & ankle deformity :

  1. Learn the preoperative evaluation and surgical plans for foot & ankle deformity and how to choose the suitable operation for the patient.
  2. Learn how to perform the operation by preoperative plans.
  3. Learn the postoperative protocols of maintenance and care after correction 

Orthopedic Managements for Cerebral Palsy :

  1. Interpretation of observational and instrumental gait analysis, including kinematics, kinetics, surface and fine needle EMG, pedobarography and oxygen consumption
  2. Conservative management for limb and spine deformity, including orthotic treatment, physical therapy, and botox injection.
  3. Soft-tissue and bony procedures for deformity correction, including iliopsoas lengthening, hip adductor release, hamstring lengthening, patellar ligament plication, gastrocnemius recession, tenoachilles lengthening, Dega osteotomy, VDRO, subtalar fusion and talonavicular arthrodesis.
  4. Post-operative protocol for each corrective surgeries.

Artificial joint replacement surgery:

  1. Outpatient: First-line follow-up, participate in outpatient consultation, study the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic joint diseases.
  2. Surgery: Provide the first line as a surgical assistant and give the most direct surgical skills to learn.
  3. Hospitalization: Participate in the care of inpatients and learn about postoperative care.
