The Andong Tunnel was constructed in 1971, at the height of the Cold War, and abandoned by the military in 2002. After refurbishment, the tunnel was opened to visitors in 2003. Some 300m long, the tunnel has eight entrances that all lead to the seashore. Inside and to the left is a pigsty, while to the right are barracks, bathrooms, a kitchen, a magazine and Zhongshan Room. Looking out from the main entrance, on the right is Rat Sandstone Forest and the protected habitat of the Blacktailed Gull and Black-naped Tern.
