The Wazihwei Nature Reserve is the most northern mangrove forest in Taiwan. At the meeting of river and ocean is a wetland swamp, pregnant with special ecology. Fiddler crabs and mudskippers are common here. The "babies in the womb" of this land would be the thickly growing mangrove variety Kandelia obovata-a perfect place for birds to perch. April and May and again in August and September are the best time for birdwatchers.
