Program Name

Thoracic Surgery

Hospital Name National Taiwan University Hospital

The Division of Thoracic Surgery primarily serves patients with diseases arising in the chest, including the lungs, mediastinum, and esophagus.

Achievements

We performed more than 3000 surgeries in 2018, and most surgeries were performed by minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery. We developed a novel operation technique of “nonintubated thoracoscopic surgery” in 2009. Using this technique, more than 1000 lung cancer surgeries were safely performed without endotracheal intubation.

The results of minimally invasive thoracic surgery were published in more than 30 manuscripts in top-ranked surgical journals, such as The Annals of Surgery.

We have trained many surgeons and medical students from all over the world each year, including those from Spain, Czech Republic, Germany, Swiss, United States, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, etc.
