Nantou County has long been famous for its tea farms and multitude of cities and towns which produce tea, making it the "Tea Kingdom" of Taiwan. The government has promoted this part of Taiwan as a sight-seeing area and encouraged people to come out and buy tea directly from the tea growers. The area became so popular that many growers found they were getting distracted from their work. A mass of tea shops and tea houses soon sprang up on the landscape, and today, these tea houses rival the tea farms themselves as the dominant feature of the hills and valleys around the area between Songboling and Tianzhong Forest Park. The trail between these two places is 2.6 kilometer long, and if you have a full day to enjoy a pleasant walk, the tea farm is best seen on foot.
