Walking along the eastern bank of the Love River (Hedong Road) toward the river mouth and along the coastal road when past Wufu Road, one arrives at Pier 13 that used to play a crucial role in homeland security and was the station where logistics resources were transported and military personnel traveled to Kinmen and Matzu, the outposts. To remember its glorious history, the Kaohsiung City Government named it the Glory Pier since it was decommissioned in 2005.From the landscape corridor configured at the Glory Pier, one can also walk along the old iron bridge to reach at the Love Pier on the opposite bank of Love River. Taking a walk above it, one can take into the beautiful views of Love River and the bay. The color sunset makes the sky mingle with the sea. It is a marvelous scene.Besides a Fountain Plaza on usual days for citizens to appreciate the beautiful bay, the Glory Pier is a frequent site for cultural and art exhibitions and performances on holidays and weekends. The annual Kaohsiung Maritime Exposition, New Year party, and all kinds of popular concerts are held here. It is a great getaway for citizens on holidays for recreation.To enable citizens to feel the efforts of the city government made with constructions that emphasize waterfront vitality, a complete and magnificent waterfront landscape area that will foster trade and economic development, with combination of recreational functions, is being planned to connect the Love Pier, Glory Pier and Shin Kuan Pier. Once completed, the whole citizenry will be able to share the fruits.
