Lying off the northwestern corner of Dongyin is a group of flat islets with sea-eroded trenches and pillars. The local people believe that, viewed at a distance from the sea, these pillars look like the 18 Arhats of Chinese Buddhism. Thus the name of the islets: Luohanping, or Arhat Flats.
