Nanfangao is an excellent fishing port close to the Pacific Ocean. Most residents live by fishing. In 1946, some residents hoped to express their gratitude for Matzu to save their lives so they planed to build Nantian Matzu Temple in December, 1950. The main palace was completed in 1952 and the whole temple was completed on November 18th, 1956 (the 45th year of the Public Era). The temple in the southern palace style is the religious center for local residents. In 1990, more than 20 craftsmen were invited to build the largest Matzu statue (pure gold weighing 200 kilograms) in the world. The opening ceremony was held at the first hour on September 10th, 1995. Many disciples come here to worship Matzu. The jade statue of Matzu made in 2000 is worth worshipping and appreciating on the second floor. If you want to enjoy fresh seafood, there are many seafood restaurants beside the fishing port. They are your best choice.
