The original Tayal name of Dongyue Village was Iyu. It became famous for growing the precious herb ''anoectochilus formosanus.'' There were two villages during the Japanese reign. For integrating the environment and administrative management, two villages were combined into present ''Dongyue Village'' in 1942. The number of households in Dongyue Village is 169 and the population is about 600. The occupations include politicians, farmers, workmen, and merchants. It is a tribe with higher education and achievements in Nan'ao Township. The traffic is pretty convenient. The eastern railway passes through the village, and Suhua Highway crosses the tribe. Vehicles keep coming and leaving Dongyue Tribe. The traffic is convenient and the custom is simple. Dongyue Tribe is close to mountains and the ocean with unique natural landscapes. The surrounding area of Dong'ao Bay is beautiful and comfortable, forming an admirable blue coast. It is a nice place for villagers to barbecue and swim. Fishing boats enter nearby Fenniaolin Port every evening. Fenniaolin Port is the fish market for Dongyue Tribe and Dong'ao Village. The fishing season is from April to June. When friends or relatives visit Dongyue Tribe, villagers take Dong'ao Dobiyo (flying fish) as the best gift. Therefore, Dongyue Tribe is praised as a flying fish tribe. The scenic area 9 kilometers away from Su'ao along Suhua Highway has higher altitude so it is easier to overlook the vast ocean. The area from Su'ao to Heping, Hualien County is in sight. There are vendors and coffee shops forming a little market here. There are mountains in back of Dongyue Tribe and the ocean in the front. The back side is a broad hinterland formed by Dong'ao North River from Ximao Mountain and by Dong'ao South River from Fengshu Mountain.
