The altitude of Yuanyang Lake is 1，670 meters and the square measure is about 2.2 hectares. The upmost depth reaches 15 meters and the water pours into the western Shihmen Reservoir. The forests nearby Yuanyang Lake are verdant. There are precious moss cohabitation forests in which 138 species of plants and 14 species of birds cohabit. The altitudes between 1，600 meters and 2324 meters have been designated as the natural ecology protection zone under the management of Yilan County.
