Phone:886-3-9545114 Address:Datong Township, Yilan County, Taiwan (R.O.C.)
Chinese Hemlock Natural Trail starts from Taipingshan Forest Park, totaling 1.7 km, the former part of the access connecting Taipingshan Hotel and Chia-Lo Lake. Along the way, you will see the pristine Hemlock forest, and wet land. Although covered with mosses, the trail is built neatly, and is safe to walk. It is a recreation route suitable for both young and old. On both sides of the trail are Hemlock trees that are over 100 years old. Insects and birds that are close to people make you feel you are also part of the forest. Clouds and fogs wreathe this forest all year long. When stepping on the trail, you feel like going through time tunnel and entering an ancient forest. Mosses and lichens cover the trees. Usnea hanging on the trees looks like shawl worn by an old lady. You see sunshine far away through layers of mist. This forest is different from others situated at a lower sea level area. It is like you are in a dream, or an illusion. You can easily image a dinosaur approaching with heavy steps. Beside the trail stands a sign, saying "brimming with ancient remnants" to describe Chinese Hemlock Natural Trail where you find mosses everywhere like an ancient forest. Mountains at a middle sea level in Taiwan are in a foggy area where it rains lot, and the humidity is high. In winter, there will be some frost and sometimes snow. The conditions of a foggy forest are found in Taipingshan, and that's the reason why an ancient forest with mosses covered everywhere is generated. At the end of the trail, there are ancient wood tracks, and you can appreciate sea of clouds there. It's a forest where your mind naturally begins to quiet down. To immerse yourself in the scent of phytoncide, and to enjoy a refreshing forest bath are ways to experience the true meaning of "taking a deep breath."
