ShaDao is a white and clear sand beach, located at 1.5 kilometers north of E-Luan-Bi. The fine sands accumulate like an island. That’s how “ShaDao” comes. ShaDao beach is about 220 meters in length. It primarily consists of shells, coral scraps and benthic foraminifers deposited by years. Since there are streams carrying sands or impurities in the neighbourhood, the content of shell sand is over 97% which is the top among beaches in KenTing. An eco-protection area has been mapped out for protect these precious natural resources. ShaDao is a 90 degrees bay like a pocket. Since the wave energy is lower, those find sands formed by scraps of marine lives, which are scoured over years, accumulate inside the bay and become an attractive shell sand beach. Color of the shell sand is crystal-clear because of being scoured by water over a long period. Many people are fascinated with the sand quality here. Therefore, an exhibition hall of shell sand is established inside the eco-protection area, which shows the fine sand from ShaDao.Since ShaDao eco-protection area is next to Ping-E highway, plants are limited to grow on sand ground. However, it makes the precious forest forms which are divided into costal shrub area and sand herb area. It is the smallest eco-protection area of plants in KenTing National Park.The characters of plants in the shrub area are thick leaves and thorns on stem. Screw Pines, Beach Naupaka, Madagascar Almond, Buddhist pines, Silvery Messerschmidia and Headache Premna are the common plants. Among them, Screw Pines are dominant and usually grow densely as a windbreak forest. The characters of plants in sand herb area are branchy, leafy, having wax on leaves which protects vaporization and growing adventitious roots for enhancing absorption. The common plants are Beach Morning-glory, Filiform Cassytha and Vigna marina. And, Beach Morning-glory is dominant.
