Qiaozai Village is on the northeastern slopes of Bishan. Small bridges are a common sight here, giving the place its name (qiao means ""bridge, "" while zai means ""small""). Qiaozai once prospered on the back of salt manufacturing and the catching of fish. In those days, it was the largest town in Matsu and an important port, with a population exceeding 1,000.The village is known for its proliferation of temples, the most in Matsu.Stretching from the Qiaozai Village to Stronghold 88, the one-kilometer long Qiaozai Corridor is the newest addition to Bengan's many attractions, with observation pagodas erected along the way overlooking the beautiful sight of uncorrupted nature on the uninhabited islets in the Taiwan Strait. What's more, the rail posts on the lay-bys are modeled after the 240 mm artillery shell, which is a first in the region. There is also a ranch in the Qiaozai Village that hosts the very first green building in Matsu, which has been elected as one of the county's 100 new attractions in an online poll.
