Qinbi Village is called ""the Mediterranean of Matsu."" Off its coast lies a reef jutting out into the ocean. The waters here are crystal clear, and from on the water, the village appears to have been carved out of the mountain on which it sits. The village is famed for its distinctive and well-preserved examples of Eastern Fujian-style architecture. These buildings have long held theattention of architects, writers and artists the world over. Though many residents have departed since the 1960s with the decline of the fishing industry, the stunning houses they left behind have since been repaired by the Lienchiang County Government. Now, these unique structures are being used as both Bed & Breakfast hotels and artists' residences. This has given the village a new look.
