Taroko National Park， facing the Pacific Ocean in the east， is situated in the northeastern part of Taiwan in the northern region of the Central Mountain Range. The Park is 36 kilometers long from north to south， 42 kilometers long from east to west and has a total area of more than 92，000 hectares. Featuring high mountains and steep gorges with several peaks towering above 3，000 meters in height and abundant natural watersheds， the spectacular Taroko Gorge and scenic beauty of the Liwu River can be conveniently viewed from the Central Cross-Island Highway passing through the park. The numerous waterfalls， diverse forms of plant and animal life and indigenous Atayal people have together created the rich texture of this unique natural ecosystem.
