Shui Wa Ku is located in a small village between Fong Chuei Sha and E-Luan-Bi Park. Besides the pond in Shui Wa Ku, there are bright green grasslands around. The view is beautiful and peaceful. In early days, the water resources here were adequate and the pond water was deeper than what you can see now. Additionally, there were many kinds of frogs living near the pond. In every summer or every time after rain, you could hear frogs croaking in harmony. This is how the name of Shui Wa Ku comes. However, there is no exception that every natural landscape disappears with damages from development. Since 30 years ago when Jia-E highway was under construction, long-term sandstone dumping caused the pond to be gradually filled. Moreover, the pond water slowly dried up. They all caused the kinds and quantity of frogs that used to inhabit to decrease. There is no peaceful pond view and no lovely frogs. The beauty of Shui Wa Ku has withered. In order to restore the previous reputation “non-stopping frog croak” of Shui Wa Ku, in recent years, local people and KenTing National Park Headquarters has begun a restoration plan. First of all, they introduce a water resource to build a natural wetland as a habitat for every creature. In addition, they grow aquatic plants around Shui Wa Ku to enhance the restoration conditions and then let frogs return to Shui Wa Ku and croak recur.Furthermore, they draw up a cultural ecology plan of Shui Wa Ku including planning appropriate traveling routes, training voluntary expositors to give tourists a most convincing guide of historic culture in Shui Wa Ku and show tourist around the pond ecology and the bright green grasslands. If you are lucky enough, you may encounter spotted deer and skylarks. Visiting Shui Wa Ku is exactly a further travel of culture and ecology.
