Antong Hot Springs are located on the north bank of Antong River in Yuli Town, surrounded by greensThe temperature of the water is between 60 to 70℃; almost clear, and of faintly alkaline, with a chloride and sodium sulfide quality, plus a faint hydrogen sulfide smell. The spring waters are of rich amount. The outlets of the springs are located along Antong River, covering 200 to 300 m. In 1904, a Japanese man was going up to the mountains to pick camphor when he discovered the hot springs on the banks of Antong River. By 1930, Japanese had built a police guest house and also a public bathing pool here. Gradually, Antong developed into a major hot springs area. After the Japanese left in 1974,it was bought by local businessman and transformed into Antong Hot Springs Hotel. The owner has maintained the wooden structure built by the Japanese. Both the façade of the building and the Japanese style rooms with tatami beds have been well preserved, giving aquaint and antique atmosphere; living up to its name as a Heritage Site given by the Council for Cultural Affairs.Besides the hotel, there are 3 free open-air hot spring pools with changing rooms in the area. The locals also dig holes on the river banks to make open-air baths.
