Shuili was a critical logging town in early-day Taiwan. In 1958, the Experimental Forest Administration, National Taiwan University set up a wood factory in Shuili, for students in the Department of Forestry and Resource Conservation to carry out experiments and researches, process raw wood, design wood furniture, and manufacture wood products. In 2009, to display the students’ achievements, NTU established a center for demonstrating wood uses and wood products. Shuili is especially meaningful in terms of Taiwan’s logging industry. Other than Checheng and Shehei, Shuili thus becomes a place to go for visitors to the Sun Moon Lake.
