Li Wan-chu (1901-1966) was an outstanding Hukou resident. During the period of Japanese occupation (1895-1945) he studied in China and France, after which he entered the ranks of anti-Japanese fighters. After the war he returned to Taiwan and took over the Taiwan Shin Sheng Daily News, and following the Feb. 28 incident founded another newspaper, the Kung Lun Pau, to struggle tirelessly for freedom, righteousness, and democracy. His residence retains the original straight-line style and displays reprints of the Kung Lun Pau, literature from the "Five Dragons and a Phoenix" period, and artifacts from the life of Li Wan-chu. A visit here will give you an insight into the life of this man and his spirit of tireless struggle for the country and its press freedoms.
