Northeast Coast is next to mountains and the ocean. There are bays， capes， strange rocks， high cliffs， magnificent marine erosion landforms， soft and gold beach， and splendid marine ecology here. The environment breeds the simple human culture and historical relics. It is a comprehensive tourist site combining the sensible knowledge of a natural classroom and the emotional coastal amusement area. The total length of the coast， from the northern Nanya Village， Ruifang Township， Taipei County to the southern cape at Neibi Beach， Su'ao Township， is 102.5 kilometers. The total square measure of both land and sea area in Northeast Coast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area is 17，421 hectares. For developing the landscape resources and ecological preservation at Northeast Coast， Tourism Bureau， Ministry of Transportation and Communications set up the management office on June 1st， 1984. It was responsible for the exploitative construction and operative management of Northeast Coast. Besides exploiting beautiful scenery spots according to the features of natural landscapes in this area， it drew up land and marine resource protection areas in order to maintain the sustainable life at Northeast Coast.
