Phone:886-5-3478817 Address:Haomeiliao village, Buidai Township, Chiayi County
The Haomeliao Nature Reserve is a site designed to protect its sandbars, lagoons, windbreak forests, and mangrove forests. The lagoons make the most vibrant habitat for living organisms within this reserve. The best time for rafting and appreciating the beauty of the lagoons is within 3 hours after the tide ebbs every day. During the cruise, varied species of birds such as the little egret, black-crowned night heron, and cattle egret can be appreciated within the mangrove forests. Getting onto the sand bars, one would be able to leisurely observe the commonly sighted shellfish such as the soldier crab, fiddler crab, and net fiddler crab. The most worthy experience for tourists is viewing the traces of limulus in different sizes that can be found in the tidal zone making this a perfect site for those in search of this living fossil dating back hundreds of millions years ago.
