Located in KenTing National Forest Recreation Area, DaGien Hill is 318 meters above sea level. Its outline changes by different viewing angles. In the direct from E-Luan-Bi, DaGien Hill seems stately and outstanding. Therefore, it is also known as Dabajian Mountain in south. From Chuanfan Rock’s direction, it looks like a stone sword with the point of blade toward sky. It’s quite fun to observe in different angles. DaGien Hill is also the representative landmark in KenTing National Park.DaGien Hill is external rock brought by argillite of KenTing Melange. KenTing Melange represents a stratum under unstable sedimentation environment. Perhaps, it can also prove that some violet crustal movement has ever occurred in the area. The geology of DaGien Hill completely differs from sediments of sandy silt and dark grey argillite. It is because that Philippine Plate brought partial rocks of oceanic crust and then slid and slumped on the original sediments of argillite when pushing ancient Taiwan crust. Since oceanic crust is included in argillite and rock is harder than argillite around, after long-term erosion, a protrudent hill has been formed.Since DaGien Hill occupies a higher position, the wide vision on hill top includes green grasslands, blue sea, white and clean beach and strange rocks in KenTing area. Therefore, it used to be the favorite route of climbers. However, in recent years, rockslides happen frequently. In order to protect tourists’ safety, climbing is all prohibited now. Although there is no chance to visit DaGien Hill, its great appearance is still worth watching in a far distance since it looks various in different directions. From E-Luan-Bi, the shape of hill looks like a blade. From KenTing Rangeland, the shape of hill seems a strange animal. From MenMaLuo Hill, it appears in perfectly round shape. For its special and various appearance, DaGien Hill does worth being the landmark of KenTing.
