Past Shoushan Road and upstream along Shibafen River is the Xinzhuang Water Source Site. To reach it one must travel a little over a kilometer up Shoushan, following the sign to veer left at a fork in the road and passing over Shuiyuan First, Second and Third bridges. During the Japanese colonization, the water source site near Shoushan Road was Xinzhuang's most important water supply. But after many years of stress on the riverside upstream at Shibafenkeng, the government decided to make the water source site an ecological conservation zone and an educational landmark. When you visit, you can see the river murmuring past, and the translucent water reveals the bottom. There are many land and aquatic animals, including butterflies, making the area seem like a giant nature classroom.
