~Scope of Services / Healthcare Systems~
CMU and its healthcare system are constantly reaching out to build up a healthcare system for the needs of the public. There are five affiliated hospitals in the system: CMUH, Children's Hospital, Beigang Hospital, Tainan Municipal Annan Hospital, and Hsinchu Hospital, as well as several partner institutions. Founded in 1980, CMUH in Taichung has seven medical buildings, 2,202 beds, and 6,373 employees. It has 190,000 outpatient visits, 12,000 emergency visits, 7,600 inpatient admissions, and 5,100 surgeries per month, making it a trusted medical center and an important health fortress for patients nationwide and worldwide.
~Developing a cutting-edge, intelligent, precise, and digitally integrated healthcare system~We are proud that under the leadership of Chang-Hai Tsai, chairman of the board of China Medical University Hospital (CMUH), our healthcare services and quality of care have become the first trusted choice for patients.
Our healthcare development in 2030 will follow the example of the Mayo Clinic: a patient-centeredhospital and a cutting-edge, intelligent, precise, and digitally integrated system.
In the next ten years, it is our goal to overcome medical technology limitations in small bowel transplants, uterine transplants, limb transplants, retinal stem cell therapy, geriatrics, cell therapy for pulmonary fibrosis, new pacemakers, left atrial appendage closure devices, MRI cardiac imaging, and iPS clinical research.
In terms of frontier medicine, advanced cell therapy has blossomed. Since the "'Regulations Governing the Application or Use of Specific Medical Techniques or Examinations, or Medical Devices" passed in 2018, 206 patients have been treated with dendritic cell therapy and 54 patients with stem cell therapy in CMUH. The initial results of dendritic cell and cytokine-induced killer cell therapy for stage 1 to 4 cancers are encouraging. In addition, studies on exosomes and microbiota are gradually developing in conjunction with our critical care and cancer treatment.
We have made significant progress in AI research and applications, such as bone age assessment and diagnosis, and now the new development of the “Intelligent Antimicrobial System.” It is the Taiwan's first intelligent antimicrobial system, enables antimicrobial resistance prediction and sepsis risk assessment. The diagnostic time can be shortened within 24 hours.
In precision medicine, millions of genetic and clinical data databases will provide valuable information for disease prevention and detection.
5G networks allow wearable monitoring devices to upload physiological data directly to the cloud. While telemedicine bridges the distance between patients and hospitals, cross-industry alliances lead to breakthroughs in medical technology. Robots are also crucial assistances in many surgeries.
CMUH is about to have a paradigm shift in health care to provide the best patient-centered multidiscipline care with the one-stop outpatient services. All resources are shared, expanded, and enriched by creating alliance networks.
