National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium

The NMMBA is located in the Checheng Village of Pingtung County, and was the first national marine museum to be established in Taiwan. On the west side of the museum is the Taiwan Straits with deep blue color and on the eastern side is the 72 meters height Tortoise Mountain. The development plan for the entire area is 96.81 hectares, and the land plan of NMMBA is to build on a square of 35.81 hectares. And the greens , services and facilities areas surrounding the museum (such as the parking lot, Visitors Information Center) are occupied about 60 hectares squares of the land area. NMMBA is situated beside with mountains and the sea, and the main concept of entire plan presents the characteristics and spirits of waters. The development of museum is adapted the way of a low density of buildings in order to distribute the different functions of buildings which is connecting one to another by the paths. And it has maintained harmoniously the relationship with the natural original environment.
