Located in Checheng Township of Pingtung County, the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium occupied an area around 96.81 acres. In order to create a marine amusement park-like atmosphere, the roof of the Aquarium is designed in a wave-like shape and is equipped with an outdoor water plaza and life-size models of whales, dolphins and sharks. To inspire visitor underwater fantasies with close and personal undersea encounters, primary facilities of the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium primary facilities offers 3 major themed exhibition halls: Water of Taiwan, Coral Kingdom Pavilion and Waters of the World.There are 12 visit points in the Water of Taiwan. With “The Journey of a raindrop” as its main theme, the Water of Taiwan features the raindrop’s journey from its fall on the high mountain which later merged with rapid flow of the melting snow along with rocks and sediments in its course into the riverbed. The water then accumulates and flows through the plains of the mid-lower stream, into the water reservoir and intertidal zone, and finally into the sea. In Water of Taiwan, visitors can acquire knowledge on the diverse faces of Taiwan’s rivers and marine ecology. The area is also equipped with a Touch Pool where visitors may touch the sea stars, sea urchins, sea hare and crabs as well as visit the glass exhibition area where visitors may enjoy watching the graceful sharks swimming freely and get acquainted with various adorable sea creatures.The Coral Kingdom Pavilion used “Tropical Rainforest of the Ocean” as its theme with alluring live corals and tropical fishes. As visitors pass through the 84m-long undersea tunnel located under the artificial ocean, beautiful coral reefs, tropical fish herds and adorable and intelligent white whales can be spotted.
