Stone Art Avenue is located at the intersection of Boai Street and Chongqing Road in Hualien City. A more accurate name would perhaps be the "Market of Stone Art". There are about thirty to forty boutiques, displaying their valuable stone works of art, including stoneware, stone sculptures, stone animal figurines, jewelry, and Taroko glass beads. They also have impressively life-like cookies, sausages, and peanuts which are made from stone. When you come to visit, you can also talk with the artists and observe the entire process of production in person. It is a wonderful chance to learn more about the art of stone carving. If you are interested in learning more about stone and stone art in Hualien, don't miss the Stone Art Cultural Museum. The guides introduce an array of stones, such as Rose Stone (also called Barite), Taiwan jade, sapphire, Taiwan tiger's eye, top quality crystals, and other carved jade and wooden art pieces. The second half of the museum is dedicated to the history of stone carving history and development. Through these presentations, you learn to appreciate stone art and the artists behind it.
