The Beicheng Market area was called Tucheng by the locals. The old Wenkang Market was growing out of the old facilities. To solve the problem, the government began to plan a modern marketplace at a new site in 1977. The market was thus shifted north and therefore the population began to gather at the north part of the town. Construction of this 3500 m2 market began in 1983. The structure was completed in 1984, housing 179 venders. This is currently the largest market in Penghu and the supply center of living necessities for the local residents. This hustle-bustle market is flowing with non-stop traffic and noise of venders' greetings.
