In despite of a history of three hundred years, it still survives the pine is thick with leaves, with branches extending and intertwining in all directions and forming a very large natural open shade for rest. It witnessed the three hundred years' history of Penghu, full of historical and cultural significance. After entering Baoan Temple, you can clearly see the natural sunroof woven by the banyan tree branches and leaves. Guarded by this three-hundred year banyan tree, Baoan Temple always attracts a large number of pilgrims. Beside the ancient banyan there are many stele caved by ancient people, probably to commemorate the denseness and longevity of the banyan tree. Origin of TongLiang Ancient Banyan There are two sayings about the origin of Tongliang ancient banyan. First, it is heard that during the reign of Qing Emperor Kangxi, merchant ships met shipwrecks when passing through Houmen, and only adventuring banyan drifted downstream to the coast and was picked up by local residents, who later planted it in front of Baoan Temple. The other saying is not as romantic as the aforementioned: the potted pine transported here by merchant shipped three hundred years ago finally becomes today's spectacular landscape after three hundred years. However, no matter what origin Tongliang ancient banyan is, such an old and lush banyan is very rare and should be actively maintained. When coming to Baoan Temple to visit Tongliang ancient banyan, do remember not to leave any trace on the large banyan tree except memory and photos.
