Liantan sits on the north of Baihe District and it's the place where lotuses of Baihe were initially planted. Facing Shuishang Town in Jiayi County across Bazhang River, Liantan occupies a space of 3.62 square kilometers and a population of 1,200 people. Around Liantan and Guangan are where lotuses in Baihe District started to get famous. And Liantan in particular has a larger production capacity due to its fertile soils in swamps and wetlands to breed lotuses. The name of "Liantan" was inspired by the scene about how lotuses grow up from the mud, and it was then also dubbed "the Hometown of Lotus". Liantan used to be one of the four tribes in Baihe District and later it was reconstructed by the government into being Liantan Village. Liantan enjoys a reputation as a typical agricultural village in which residents have long stayed here and worked as farmers generation by generation on green plains accompanied by a few mild hills. People in Liantan are simple and industrious, devoting themselves to producing lotus seeds as their main incomes. Although the planting and harvesting seasons of lotus might vary, it's possible for tourists to come and watch beautiful lotuses April through October every year. Lotus picking and its seeds making in summer together with lotus roots digging and transformed into powder in winter is quite the lifestyle of the people residing in Liantan.
