After the 921 Earthquake, the reconstruction team built a cultural hall that was modelled after the traditional Bunun stone house. This cultural hall is the most representative structure in the Tannan area and a symbol to strengthen the unity among villagers, stimulate the determination of the villagers to rebuild their homeland, introduce the architectural features of traditional Bunun houses, and present the close ties between family members.Even though the building has been complete for more than a decade, it sits idly; it is unclear whether it is because the villagers remain uncommitted or for other reasons. The empty building feels like an old man silently expecting the visit of his children, waiting for the opportunity to enrich the architectural beauty and infuse the vitality into the local cultures for the villagers, rather than being left alone as a body without a soul.
