Baling Historic Trail was originally a tribal passageway built by the Atayal people in the Fuxing mountain district. Unlike the other historic trails that surround the mountains, Baling Historic Trail follows the edge lines of the mountains. With the construction of the highway, the trail was no longer in use. It then becomes a nurturing place for a wealth of plants and wildlife and creates an ecological landscape. Going deep into the forest, you can see the thick and unspoiled broadleaf forest, the Baling carnation, Mucuna macrocarpa Wall., vanilla that climbs over trees, and etc, depicting the beauty of the natural ecology. Today, Taoyuan City Government preserves the remains of the historic trail and reconnects the trail from Baling Bridge to Mt. Lala Tourist Information Center with planked footway and rope bridges. Also, the epitome of Baling landscape is displayed in the Butterfly Museum, Beetle Museum, Broadleaf Forest Museum and Geological Museum. Together with the local aboriginal culture, the long deserted Baling Historic Trail is reopened as Baling Ecological Park Trail, so that visitors can experience a tour with natural landscapes and cultural profundity. Despite its name, Baling Historic Trail is completed with mostly new planked footway. The trail has a total length of 1.28 km. The tranquil trail integrates into the natural landscape, especially the Ecological Exploration Rope Bridge that hangs amidst the trees. Walking on the one-way suspension bridge, tourists can closely observe the canopy ecology and experience the windy suspension in the air.
