Fenchi Lake Old Street

Fenchi Lake is one of the main stations along the Ali Mt. Forest Railroad， famous for its old streets， lunch boxes and square bamboos in the past. Houses here were built along the mountain ramps. Below the train station lies an old street spanning around 500m. In the old days， there was no name for this street， and the residents simply called it "the street". It was the first place where the shops gathered here in Fan-Chi-Hu. Before the construction of Ali Mt. Forest Railroad and Ali Mt. Road， about 100 years ago the frame of this old shopping street had gradually appeared. As the Ali Mt. Road was built in 1990s， the importance of Fenchi Lake started to decrease， and the business on the old street declined. Thanks to traveling in Taiwan becoming a trend and the versatility of natural scenery here， it recently returned to be a significant spot in Ali Mountain area. The road accessing to Fenchi Lake old street are all stone-paved walking paths. Floors by floors， visitors walking up and down， making here resemble a small Jiu-Fen， which is located in northern Taiwan. Actually some people also call here the "Jiu-Fen of southern Taiwan". Stores on the old street sale a variety of local unique products， such as lunchbox， tofu and cakes， appealing to many visitors. Due to the prosperity of tourism industry here， this old street， which is the one at the highest sea level， becoming a must-visit place for visitor traveling to Ali Mountain. In addition to lunchbox， the cake and rice-made products are the most remarkable local products for visitors in Fen-Chi-Hu old street. Such as traditional cakes form the " De-Min Cake Shop"， train-shaped cakes filled with red beans and the smell of tea from the "Train Cake Store"， eggs cooked with tea， lunchbox cakes(taro cakes) from the "Lunchbox Family"， etc.
