Guningtou: Nanshan and Beishan were some of the earliest settlements on Kinmen to grow to any significant size. Together with the Lincuo, the area was referred to as Guningtou. The Li clan is the dominant local family and most of the traditional houses were built during the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. At the bottom of the gentle slop is Shuangli Lake so the overall layout is also known as "Shuangli Feng Shui". As fierce street battles were fought here during the Guningtou Battle, many of the walls still show bullet marks. The most famous of these buildings was the Beishan Old Western-style House that was used by the Communist forces as their forward command post. The broken rubble riddled with bullet holes provides a stark reminder of the bloody battle. The Spirit Lion Statue in Guningtou: The Spirit Lion Statue stands on the shore of Shuangli Lake at Beishan and watches over the Guningtou settlement. It has a red cape that flutters in the breeze and was carved from granite. With a height of 115cm, its large ears and the decorative tail on the back are its most distinctive features.
