The General’s Residence was the mansion of Lu Cheng-chin (courtesy name Wei-li, pseudonym Fen-ting), an imperial general during the late Qing Dynasty. He was born in 1822 and died in 1894. His family was very poor so he volunteered to join the military at an early age. For his valor during anti-piracy campaigns, he was soon promoted as a supernumerary auxiliary.During the reigns of Emperor Xianfeng and Tongzhi, Lu helped to put down the "Siadaohuei" pirates that were terrorizing Xiamen. At Jhonggang and Jingueiwei he burnt and sunk the pirate boats after fierce battles then cleared the remaining pirates from Xiamen. For his achievements, he was given command of the reserves and went on to serve with distinction.
