Legend has it that Shoutian Temple was built when people moving to Taiwan from Fujian built a small wooden house on the current location of the temple in 1657 worshipping Beiji Xuantian Shangdi that they brought from Wudang Mountain. Later, at the third day of the third month of the lunar calendar on 1737, under the direction of god, followers gathered funds to build a small temple at its current location, gradually forming its current appearance.The current scale and appearance of Shoutian Temple was completed in 2008. Although it once encountered fire accident, it still stands magnificently. As for Xuantian Shangdi, the main worshipping god of Shoutian Temple, it was also known as “Shangdigong” and “Diyegong”. According to the estimation of the temple, 2 to 3 thousand temples and altars will come to worship Xuantian Shangdi from March to December of the lunar calendar every year. Upholding the spirit of “not willing to look weak”, the spirit medium of each worshipping team will demonstrate all their skills to compete against one another.
