Beigang Head of Waterways Culture Park was transformed from a water treatment plant, built in 1930, which was named the “Head of Waterways” in Japanese. At the time, it was considered a state of the art comprehensive water plant, with water extracting wells, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, and other facilities. Once known as “Waterway Water,” the treated water from this plant was pumped into a water tower and supplied households nearby. After providing drinking water for the Beigang residents for more than 60 years, the plant was deactivated in 1997. The Beigang Head of Waterways Culture Park is located at the end of Beigang Street by the bank of the Beigang River, about a 6 to 8-minute walk from Beigang Chao-Tien Temple. With the greening of surrounding areas, the Beigang Head of Waterways Culture Park is now an excellent destination to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
