"Qian"means"nextto"or"nearby".Becausetheforerunnersbuilthomesaroundthebigpondsinthevillage,thisareawascalled"Tanzaiqian"(inTaiwanese).ThatistheTanQianVillagetoday.ThepondsherewereoncesupportthelivelihoodofTanqian.Therearearound1200peoplelivinginTanqianVillagenow.Fewdecadesago,therewere17brickkilnsbecausethesludgeinthesepondswasverysuitableformakingredbricksandtiles.Thekilnindustryfacilitatedthedevelopmentofthevillage.However,August7Floodin1958destroyedtheentirevillageandcausedseriouscausalitiesandlosses.Dozensofbrickkilnswereclosedonebyoneovertenyearsafterthenewbrickmachinewereimported.Whenwewalkintothekiln,thebricks,whichweremadedecadesago,arestillcompileduporderlyandwaitedforburning.Themomentinthekilnsseemsfreeze.Nowadays,noheatwillcomeoutofthekilnsanymore.AllthegloryhasgonewiththebreezeandthebreezeofSpringwillbringinnewhopeagain.
