TheLaijiVillagesitsatthefootoftheTashan,amountainontheAlishanmountainchain,attheelevationof700-1000meters.TheaboriginalTsouTribedwellsinthisvillage.TheybelievethatthefrequentlandslidedisastersinthevillageisduetotheangerofthegoddessofTashan,whichneedstobequenchedbysymbolsofmasculinity.Consequently,thevillagerssetuphugewoodencraftsofmalePenis.Theybelievedthissetupsuccessfullyeliminatedthedisaster.Sotheymovedthe3-meter-tallwoodencrafttothegateofthevillage,locatedatthestartofTai-Road149.Fromthenon,thewoodenPenisbecameauniquesymbolofthevillage.WalkingintothevillageislikedigginintothecultureandartsoftheTsouTribe.Thevillagersusedtoproduceplentyofcraftedstonyflakesasthebuildingmaterialeachfamilyhastheskillsofmovinglargestonesalongtheriverandofstonecrafting.Such"StoneCulture"isseeneverywhereinthevillage--sidewalks,gardens,squares,fences,ditchesandsoforth.Inadditiontotheculturalheritage,thisareacontainslotsofnaturalresourcesandfarmssurroundedbybeautifulmountains.Aboveall,sustainabilityisanemphasisofthevillage,whichisinfactcalled"theForeverVillageattheFootofTashan".
