Old name: Taisugar Northern Chiayi Line Wufengzai Railway and Beigang Iron Bridge Taisugar “Northern Chiayi Line Wufengzai Railway” was operated by Great Japan Sugar Corporation (Taisugar Beigang Factory) to transport goods between Chiayi and Beigang. The railway began operation in 44th year of Meiji (1910) and was used to transport sugar canes, fertilizers and substandard goods. Later it was connected with the western line to transport produce and supplies. Northern Chiayi Line became a golden route for Taisugar as Chaotian Temple of Beigang and Fengtian Temple of Xingang attracted waves of pilgrims. It was also an important transportation tool of local residents and students. Because the track gauge is half of the international gauge and thus it is called “Wufenzai railway”. The development of the sugar industry facilitates the development of Nanyang Plain and the railway of the sugar industry becomes the important transportation tool for the people alongside.
