The Zhu-Ciyu (Folk) Concert Hall used to be a guest house for the air force and the residence of general Li-Ren Sun. The area is about 33500 square yards. It was built in 1937 or so. As an important architecture in Pingtung city, either its appearance or the layout shows the characteristics of the contemporary buildings, which are a combination of japans and western styles. When the Pingtung County government took it over, the hall was designated as a concert hall to promote folk music. There are an amphitheater, a café with a garden, a gallery, a small concert hall, and the archives. Thus people can come here for some music or the coffee. The site covers a big area full of trees. Even the two houses make use of a lot of Chinese firs, Taiwan cypresses, and Redmerantis. Before they were designated as a concert hall, the western style two-story building was the guest house. The one behind it is a Japanese style residence. They are both still in good shape. Historical sites with special characteristics are rare in Pingtung City, so the government decided not to have it torn down. It was furbished and used as Zhu-Ciyu Concert Hall. The folk music focused on are those of Hengchun, Manzhou, Hakka, and the aboriginals. The administration also cooperates with some clubs and music departments of universities to promote music creation in multiple forms. The clubs include an Association for Music Promotion and several groups that care for the local history and cultural development.
