Siyu Eastern Fort Also called Eastern Fort Castle, Siyu Eastern Fort is located in Waian Village, Siyu Township, and is a fort supervised and constructed by Liu Ming-Chuan in the 13th year of the reign of Qing Emperor Guangxu. At that time, western forts were introduced for military defense purpose. It faces northward and played a guarding function in many battles especially there is an observatory at the east outside of the castle. East West now has been listed as a Class A heritage, full of historical significance, and is a famous attraction of Penghu. Because Siyu Eastern Fort was originally constructed to consolidate the coast, so Eastern Fort Castle is not only adjacent to the sea castle, but also in ㄇ shape facing the sea. The Siyu Eastern Fort is entirely constituted by gray buildings, and it looks more spectacular, majestic, and thrilling when watched from distance. In Siyu Eastern Fort, you can see many traces on the wall, but it does not influence the overwhelming vigor of the fort. Siyu Eastern Fort is a west-style fort, so it looks particularly exotic. Occupying an area of seven hectares, Siyu Eastern Fort is surrounded by tall solid walls in all directions and has many arches and doors inside. When entering the podium, you may as well experience how the soldiers at that time observe the situation of coast and enemy warships. In addition, with a high position, Siyu Eastern Fort is a good place to watch Penghu Island and neighboring islands. If time permits, you may as well visit there in dusk when the sun sets.
